The Silva Is Where Alys Beach Turns Toward the Pines

At 18 Whitten Way, on the northwest edge of Alys Beach, the white garden walls stop at a stand of longleaf pine. The Silva sits there, between the forest and the town's 20-acre Nature Preserve. It is the newest amenity in a town better known for Gulf-front masonry and the Somerset Street amphitheatre. The Alys Insider Spring 2026 newsletter says The Silva opened in March, and a grand-opening celebration followed on Saturday, May 2.

Most of what Alys Beach built before The Silva either faces the water or gathers around Town Center. The Silva was designed for the hottest part of the day and the shade of the woods. This fall and holiday season, for the first time, its calendar also reaches into the evening.

Where the Town Becomes Forest

The Silva belongs to Phase 4, the GG Block neighborhood. Alys Beach describes that area as one "where nature dominates the scene," with homes "organized around an expansive wetland park and Nature Preserve." The design firm Hart Howerton published its plan for The Silva in February 2025. That plan called for a central event lawn, a conditioned pavilion opening onto it, a pool, and a covered terrace with a bar and casual full-service dining.

Tim Slattery, a partner at Hart Howerton, described the site in the firm's announcement:

"This is where the town transitions into the forest and connects to the winding boardwalk weaving through the pine woodland. The Silva is where you can find shade, seasonal color, and a restful retreat from the heat of the afternoon sun."

In the same announcement, he called the surrounding neighborhood "a bit more 'country' than 'town.'" The phrase now appears almost word for word on Alys Beach's own Phase 4 page. It is unusual language for a town whose public image rests on its Town Center, its beach pavilions and its white stucco courtyards. It also explains the layout. The Silva sits where the street grid gives way to slash pine and cypress, so it does not compete with the Gulf.

The finished amenity matches the plan closely. According to Alys Beach's amenity page, it includes The Summerhouse, which is a conditioned event pavilion, plus an event lawn, a restaurant and bar, and a meandering pool. The restaurant is open-air and anchors the pool deck, and the town describes its menu as "Southern-inspired." It is a private amenity for Alys Beach homeowners and vacation-rental guests.

A Schedule Built Around the Middle of the Day

The posted hours line up with the purpose Slattery described. As of the amenity page updated October 9, 2026, The Silva runs on this schedule:

Service at The Silva Posted hours
Pool deck Daily, 9am to 7pm
Lunch 11am to 4pm
Drinks 11am to 6pm
Phone 850-964-3447

The listing shows lunch but no dinner service, and drinks end at 6pm. The pool deck closes at 7pm, which in late October is about when daylight is fading. Taken together, the hours describe a place built for the stretch between late morning and early evening, the "heat of the afternoon sun" that its designer said The Silva was meant to soften. The town notes the hours may change, so check the amenity page before planning a day around them.

Evenings in Alys Beach have largely belonged to Town Center, and this month's calendar shows it. The official calendar lists Wine + Song at NEAT from 5 to 7pm on October 13, 20 and 27: four wines for $30 per person. Howl-O-Ween runs on Somerset Street on October 22. The dog-and-owner costume contest is 4 to 5pm, and merchant trick-or-treating follows from 5 to 7pm. On an October weekday, then, The Silva covers the hours from lunch to late afternoon, and Town Center picks up when the light goes.

The Boardwalk Next Door

The Silva's setting extends well past the pool deck. Alys Beach's Art & Parks page describes the 20-acre Nature Preserve as having an 1,800-foot boardwalk trail with "elevated views" of the community. The route, labeled the Nature Trail & Boardwalk, passes through three distinct settings:

  1. It begins in a dense forest of slash pine and cypress.
  2. It follows an intermittent stream.
  3. It ends in a sunlit meadow of wiregrass and wildflowers.

It is the same "shade, seasonal color" Slattery described, laid out as a walk. The boardwalk is the link between the Phase 4 streets and the woods, which is why Alys Beach treats The Silva and the preserve as a single setting. The town's Phase 4 page says this is "where the Town transitions into the forest and connects to the winding boardwalk weaving through the pine woodland."

The town's published material does not say whether the preserve is open to the public, and it lists no guided walks or nature programs. Alys Beach staff are the right people to ask about access before bringing visiting guests along.

Through December, The Silva Starts Keeping Evening Hours

Two events on the 2026 calendar take The Silva past its posted 7pm close and turn it into an evening venue.

The first is part of Alys Beach Crafted, which runs November 11 through 14. The event description says proceeds benefit Walton County's Cultural Arts Alliance. On Thursday, November 12 at 5pm, The Summerhouse at The Silva hosts the Experiential Wine Dinner featuring Menagerie Wines. Chef Drew Dzejak and the Alys Beach Culinary team are preparing a multi-course menu paired with Menagerie wines. Photography by David Yarrow will be shown throughout the dinner. The event page lists these details:

  • Age: 21 and older
  • Dress code: Cocktail
  • Food and drink: All included
  • Setting: Outdoor, seated dinner
  • Weather: Rain or shine

The second is Alys Classics on December 29, from 6 to 9pm, billed as "a movie and picnic at The Silva." Alys Beach lists it under both its Family-Friendly and Public categories. That Public label matters for an amenity otherwise reserved for homeowners and rental guests. It is the clearest sign so far that The Silva's lawn may serve as a town-wide gathering space for certain events. The listing also says more information is coming and that details and timing may change.

Alys Classics falls within a busy final week of the year. The December calendar also lists the Alys Foundation Gala on December 27 and a free Noon Year's Eve Party on December 31. Before the holidays, the largest public gathering stays at the amphitheatre. Alys in Winter Wonderland takes place on November 27, from 4 to 6:30pm, at the Alys Beach Amphitheatre on Somerset Street. It is free and open to the public, with a 4pm concert, a 6:30pm tree lighting, and Santa photos and cookie decorating at $3 each.

Two Centers, Two Kinds of Day

Through the end of 2026, Town Center keeps the dog costume contest, the trick-or-treating, the weekly wine flights at NEAT and the tree lighting. The Silva holds the seated wine dinner and the picnic movie night, both set on a lawn at the edge of the woods.

Town Center is also still adding to its own mix. SoWal reported on October 7 that Rowan, a California menswear brand opening its first store outside that state, was expected to open in Alys Beach in October 2026. The same story said KREWE planned its first Florida storefront in Alys Beach this fall. Both openings were still expected when the story ran, so call ahead before making a trip for either.

The Silva is the one place in Alys Beach planned around shade, pine woods and the slow middle of the afternoon. With the Crafted dinner on November 12 and the Alys Classics picnic on December 29, its first fall and holiday season also brings it into the evening calendar. Before booking either date, check the Alys Beach events calendar, because both listings say details may change.
